A Clermont County man has been booked into an Ohio prison to serve his life sentence after pleading guilty to the tragic killing of his three sons last summer.
Last week, Chad Doerman, 33, admitted to committing a horrific crime. He pleaded guilty to three counts of aggravated murder for the tragic deaths of his three young sons: 3-year-old Chase Doerman, 4-year-old Hunter Doerman, and 7-year-old Clayton Doerman.
In addition, he admitted guilt for two charges of felonious assault, which are second-degree felonies, relating to the harm caused to his ex-wife and stepdaughter. As a result, all of the aggravating circumstances that would have made him eligible for the death penalty are being dismissed.
Judge Richard Ferenc handed down a severe sentence to Doerman, with three life sentences without parole, to be served consecutively with an additional 16 years minimum sentencing for the assault charges.
Doerman was recently booked into a state prison by the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction to serve his sentence.
Doerman was taken into custody in June following allegations that he fatally shot his three sons, Chase, Hunter, and Clayton. He faced a long list of charges, including multiple counts of aggravated murder.
During the court proceedings in Clermont County on Friday, Laura Doerman, the ex-spouse of Chad Doerman, delivered a heartfelt statement with the assistance of a victim advocate, expressing that no form of punishment can ever bring her sons back.
“I am in full agreement with how the criminal case was resolved, and the decision to end this criminal case with a plea and multiple life sentences brings some finality to the court case for my daughter and me. No punishment will ever bring my boys back. Having a guarantee that he will spend the rest of his life behind bars is what is best for my family,” the statement read in part.
The statement expressed gratitude towards the Clermont County Sheriff’s Office for their efforts in the investigation, as well as the first responding officers and paramedics who attempted to provide life-saving assistance to the boys.
“I’d like to thank all of the first responding officers and firefighters/paramedics who were there that day and did what they could for my boys and my family. Finally, I’d like to thank the prosecution team for their support and assistance through the court process,” the statement read.
