Cocaine worth $450,000 Discovered on Alabama Beach following similar Bust in Key West

Officials report that 25 kilograms of suspected cocaine were discovered on an Alabama beach, mirroring the previous day’s discovery of the same quantity of drugs off the coast of Florida.

Cocaine bundles were discovered on the west side of Dauphin Island, according to the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office. The find was made on Thursday, as reported by CBS affiliate WKRG-TV. A total of 55 pounds of drugs were seized, with an estimated street value of $450,000.

A photo released by the sheriff’s office displayed 25 packages of the alleged drugs, a few of which had a “%” sticker on the front.

The sheriff’s office was notified by the Dauphin Island Police Department about the discovery of suspected drugs on the beach. According to WKRG, detectives have not discovered any additional packages, but they are still closely monitoring the area.

Just a day after scuba divers discovered 25 kilograms of suspected cocaine off the coast of Key West, Florida, another discovery has been made. According to officials, the packages were found submerged approximately 100 feet below the surface of the Atlantic Ocean. The stash was handed over to the U.S. Border Patrol.

Last week, the U.S. Coast Guard made a significant seizure in Florida. They offloaded a substantial amount of cocaine, weighing over 4,800 pounds and valued at more than $63 million. This operation took place in the Caribbean Sea, where Coast Guard officers successfully intercepted and sank a speedboat believed to be involved in drug smuggling.

Cocaine is frequently transported by drug traffickers through waters in the Gulf Coast and Caribbean Sea, often resulting in the discovery of narcotics washed up on or near U.S. beaches.

Last month, a beachgoer stumbled upon a significant discovery along the Florida Keys – approximately $1 million worth of cocaine, as reported by CBS News.

In 2023, a significant amount of cocaine was discovered on multiple Florida beaches, with a value exceeding $100,000. Last year, Tampa Mayor Jane Castor made an unexpected discovery while on a fishing trip with her family. She managed to reel in a staggering 70 pounds of cocaine.

In January 2023, a significant amount of packaged cocaine was found on Big Pine Key, Florida. Similarly, in 2019, bricks of cocaine were discovered on two beaches following the impact of Hurricane Dorian on the Sunshine State.
