A man from Simi Valley was sentenced on Thursday for sexually abusing a member of his family.
According to the announcement made by the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office on Friday, Phillip Allen Fleming, who is 65 years old, was given a sentence of seven years and four months in state prison for the ongoing abuse that took place between 1993 and 2007.
According to a press release issued by the District Attorney’s office, “The attacks started when the victim was only six years old and continued until she moved out of the home when she was 18 years old.”
After the woman came forward in April of 2021 to report the attempted sexual assault, Fleming was the subject of an investigation.
In May, he entered a guilty plea to one count of felony continuous sexual abuse and two counts of felony indecent actions upon a child. Both of these charges were brought against him as reported by KTLA News.
It was also said by the District Attorney’s Office that “he admitted to special allegations that the victim was under the age of 18 years old, that the victim was vulnerable, and that he took advantage of a position of trust.”
According to Deputy District Attorney Benjamin Moreno, who was in charge of the prosecution of this case, “With offenses dating back to 1996, this case demonstrates that if you are a victim of child sexual abuse, California’s extended statute of limitations on child sex crimes means that it may not be too late to come forward and obtain justice.”
