Alabama Man Brutally Slit Father’s Throat with Knife; Judge Sent Killer Son in Jail for Life

On Wednesday, a man from Florence was given a sentence of life in prison for the murder of his father, which occurred in 2023.

After a hearing that took place on Wednesday, July 31, Matthew O’Neal Goode, who is 41 years old, was given a sentence of life in prison.

In January of 2023, Goode was initially taken into custody and charged with murder in connection with the death of his father.

On June 12, according to the records of the court, he entered a guilty plea to the charge of murder. The guilty plea was entered during the course of his jury trial, which, according to the documents, started on Monday, May 10th.

As a result of an argument that was believed to have occurred between the two, deputies from the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) went to a residence located on County Road 5. When they arrived at the residence, they found Goode in the yard, and they promptly detained him. Prior to their arrival, they had been informed that the son was armed with a knife.

Within the residence, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office discovered the body of Donald Edward Goode, 66 years old, lying on the floor of the living room with what appeared to be a knife wound to his neck.
