A tragic incident occurred Friday afternoon at a Florida middle school, where an infant was discovered deceased after a relative neglected to take the child to day care, as reported by the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities responded to South Sumter Middle School around 4 p.m. regarding an infant found deceased.
A 15-month-old toddler was in the care of a relative and was scheduled to be taken to day care. According to deputies, the relative neglected to drop off the child at school and left the child in the car instead.
A tragic discovery was made later in the day when the child was found deceased in the parked vehicle.
“This is a tragic situation and our hearts go out to the family of the child,” deputies wrote in a Facebook post.
The inquiry is still in progress. Further information is currently unavailable.
