A Bronx attorney with disturbing intentions received a decade-long federal prison sentence for attempting to arrange a sexual encounter with a 14-year-old girl from Connecticut, only to discover that the girl was, in fact, an undercover officer.
Tong Hyon Suh, 47, engaged in inappropriate online communications with “Megan” starting in 2022, which included disturbing conversations where the lawyer requested “slutty pics” and detailed sexual acts he wished to perform with her, according to the US Attorney in the Southern District of New York.
“Tong Hyon Suh attempted to engage in predatory behavior with someone he believed to be a 14-year-old, showing a disturbing disregard for the safety and well-being of minors,” US Attorney Damian Williams said in a statement. “This sentencing underscores our commitment to confronting threats to minors.”
Suh, known as Jason Suh, initially encountered Megan on the social platform Kik in April 2022 and began chatting with her, unaware that she was a detective from the Greenwich Police Department investigating online predators.
Alongside requests for explicit images, Suh assured that they would “record our own little porno, it’ll be fun,” and planned a trip to Connecticut for the two to engage in sexual activities, according to federal prosecutors.
According to prosecutors, the lawyer intended to board a Metro-North train to Connecticut, use a ride service to reach her residence, and then drive to a Stamford home he would rent for their clandestine meeting.
Megan requested that he bring along condoms, lollipops, and marijuana.
On May 27, 2022, when Suh arrived at the location, law enforcement was present and promptly arrested him, charging him with one count of attempted sexual exploitation of a minor.
Suh was looking at a potential 30-year sentence, but after pleading guilty in March, he received a 10-year term on Friday.
