Antonio Agustin-Ailon, a Guatemalan national, is now facing additional charges after allegedly taking a 12-year-old Hall County girl to his Ohio home.
The Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office has announced that Agustin-Ailon has been indicted on multiple charges, including rape, gross sexual imposition, pandering sexually-oriented matters involving a minor or impaired person, and interference with custody.
He is currently being held in the Tuscarawas County Jail without the possibility of bond as reported by Fox-5 Atlanta.
A 34-year-old man allegedly met a 12-year-old girl from Gainesville online and brought her to Dover, Ohio, where he resides. The girl was last seen on May 29. A search lasting almost two months was initiated following the girl’s disappearance.
The girl reached out to her family via Facebook Messenger, reassuring them that she was safe and urging them to cease their search. Investigators successfully traced the IP address used in those messages back to a phone located in Ohio.
Four sheriff’s investigators recently traveled to Ohio and observed the girl at a city swimming pool on July 25. Authorities apprehended the individual at a nearby store, ensuring the safe recovery of the other person involved.
Initially, prosecutors sought to extradite Agustin-Ailon to Georgia to face charges. However, they now believe that the more serious crimes took place in Ohio, where the majority of witnesses to those crimes are located.
Georgia prosecutors have announced their intention to proceed with filing charges in Hall County. It is likely that they will present the case to a Grand Jury. Meanwhile, Tuscarawas County is also moving forward with its own case.
