Illinois Man Shot Wife Dead after Victim Filed for Protection Order; Children Witnessed the Brutal Murder of Their Mother by Father

An Illinois man fatally shoots his estranged wife in front of their children due to anger over her intention to seek an order of protection.

According to prosecutors, the victim had initiated divorce proceedings just six weeks before her tragic murder at the hands of her husband, Timothy Gordon, on October 31, 2022.

An Illinois man has been sentenced to prison for fatally shooting his estranged wife in front of two young children. The man was angry because she planned to file an order of protection against him.

A 50-year prison sentence has been handed down to Timothy Gordon, 48, following his conviction for first-degree murder in the tragic shooting death of his wife Yahaira. The announcement was made by Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie L. Mosser in a press release on July 19.

Nevertheless, Gordon’s sentence was increased to life in prison without the chance of parole. This decision was made by Judge Clint Hull, who believed that Gordon had intentionally killed his wife. The maximum sentence for a firearm enhancement was imposed in this case.

According to prosecutors, Gordon was reportedly disturbed upon discovering that Yahaira was contemplating obtaining an order of protection against him on October 31, 2022. Yahaira had recently filed for divorce and was graciously letting Gordon stay in the basement of their Montgomery, Ill., home while she resided on the second floor with her mother, aunt, and four children.

Gordon forcefully entered an upstairs bedroom where Yahaira, her mother, her aunt, and two young children were present, according to prosecutors. According to prosecutors, he approached Yahaira and fired a single shot near her left temple. According to reports, Yahaira was tragically killed by the shot.

Prosecutors have stated that Yahaira captured a video on her cellphone during the shooting due to her concerns about a potential “confrontation” with Gordon. The extent of the incident captured on video remains uncertain.

According to prosecutors, Gordon had a previous criminal record and was on parole for unlawfully possessing a weapon as a felon when Yahaira was killed. According to reports, he was found guilty of the crime in Mississippi back in 2017.

According to authorities, Gordon has a long criminal history that stretches all the way back to 1994. His past convictions include armed violence, robbery, aggravated battery with a firearm, and aggravated DUI.

“The defendant received the life sentence he deserved for doing to Yahaira what she didn’t deserve,” a prosecutor said in the release. “She did not deserve to die in this utterly contemptible way. She did not deserve to have all of the memories robbed from her that she would have made with her children as they grew – high school, proms, weddings, grandchildren.”
