A judge has ruled in favor of Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, dismissing a lawsuit alleging sexual assault.
Collin County Judge Angela Tucker issued a ruling on Wednesday, following the recent announcement by Dallas police that they did not find enough evidence to pursue criminal charges against Prescott.
An incident that took place in 2017 is at the center of this case, involving an alleged assault by Prescott in the back of an SUV in a strip club parking lot.
In January, attorneys Bethel and Yoel Zehaie sent a letter on behalf of a woman who alleged that Prescott had sexually assaulted her in February 2017. The attorneys expressed that the woman was open to forgoing criminal charges and refraining from public disclosure, in return for receiving compensation for the mental anguish she has endured. The letter stated that the damages were estimated to be worth $100 million.
Prescott’s attorney, Levi McCathern, stated that the claims against Prescott have been denied and a countersuit has been filed. The countersuit is still ongoing, along with potential extortion charges against the woman and her attorneys in Collin County.
“Through the unwavering determination of [the woman] and her legal team to extract money and tarnish Dak’s reputation, justice has consistently triumphed and will continue to do so,” McCathern stated.
Judge Tucker has scheduled a hearing for September 13th to discuss the possibility of imposing sanctions on the woman and her legal team as reported by ESPN.
