Florida School Principle Hit Student with Charging Cords and Locked Him in Room: Police Say

Tampa, FL: According to reports, a Florida principal was arrested over the weekend after he reportedly locked a child in a room for almost an hour and hurt the child several times.

According to an arrest affidavit, 33-year-old Dontay Akeem Prophet was charged with aggravated child abuse and false imprisonment of a kid under 13 years old. He was caught on Saturday.

According to WESH, Marion County Deputies were called to the Destiny Leadership Academy last Friday after a call about a fight between Prophet and a student.

Surveillance video showed that the principal hurt the student “multiple times,” according to the deputies.

WESH said the video showed the director going up to the child at the table and “grabbing” and “poking” him. News reports say that Prophet sat on top of the boy when he fell to the ground, then picked him up off the ground and put him in a “choke hold.”

Records show that the principal blocked the door over and over to keep the child from leaving during the whole exchange.

Sometime, when the kid was under the table, WESH said, the 33-year-old “tried to drag him out by his ankles and then started twisting one of them.” Prophet also hit the child on the head with a charge cord and slapped him in the face, according to the suspects.

According to reports, arrest papers also show that other teachers saw what happened. But when officers asked Prophet about what happened, he said it was a “attempt to protect the child,” according to WESH.

The principal was caught the next day and being held without bond at the Marion County Jail.
