6-year-old Brought Loaded Gun to School in Virginia; Weapon Confiscated by Authorities

On Monday, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office reported that a loaded gun was discovered in the backpack of a 6-year-old elementary student.

On Monday, Sept. 16, around 12:50 p.m., a staff member at Orange Elementary School reported to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office that a loaded gun had been discovered on the premises. Shortly after the firearm was discovered, the school activated its safety protocols.

The sheriff’s office reported that the SRO and School Administrator found the backpack containing the gun.

A 6-year-old student was found to have brought a gun to school. The sheriff’s office reported that an instructional assistant made the discovery.

No prior threats were reported before the discovery of the firearm, and there were no injuries involved. According to the sheriff’s office, no arrests have been made yet, but the investigation is ongoing.

Students at Orange Elementary School are all accounted for and safe. Extra police presence is planned at the school on Tuesday, Sept. 17.
