Woman Found with More than 11K Fentanyl Pills in Utah lands in Police Custody

Salt Lake City, UT: A woman who is not a citizen of the United States was charged and indicted on Wednesday for a number of drug-related offenses. These offenses include the alleged possession of heroin, methamphetamine, and 11,700 fentanyl tablets, as well as the intention to distribute these substances.

The United States Department of Justice stated that Martha Isela Navarro Chapas, who is 31 years old and hails from West Jordan, along with other individuals who are members of a drug trafficking organization, were thought to be involved in the distribution of substantial quantities of drugs in the District of Utah.

Chapas was taken into custody by federal investigators working for the FBI within the Wasatch Metro Drug Task Force on Thursday, March 21. The Department of Justice (DOJ) stated that agents informed her that they had two search warrants for her residence in West Jordan.

A total of roughly 23.35 grams of suspected fentanyl tablets, approximately 2.05 grams of field-tested positive cocaine, and $1,318 were confiscated during the search.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) reported that shortly after that, during the execution of the search warrant at the first residence, agents seized 2,287 grams (package weight) of field-tested positive methamphetamine, 953 grams (package weight) of field-tested positive fentanyl, which included an estimated 9,500 pills, and 417 grams (package weight) of field-tested positive heroin.

During the execution of the search warrant at the second house, authorities reportedly confiscated 219 grams (package weight) of suspected fentanyl tablets, which comprised an estimated 2,200 pills. The package weight represented the total amount of pills contained. According to the Department of Justice, agents also seized $25,598.

Wednesday was the day that Chapas was charged with possessing methamphetamine with the intent to distribute, possessing fentanyl with the intent to distribute, and possessing heroin with the intent to distribute.

Currently, the Wasatch Metro Drug Task Force and the FBI Salt Lake City Field Office are conducting an investigation into this particular instance.
