A tragic incident occurred on Saturday, July 20, when a woman lost her life after jumping from a moving vehicle during a pursuit.
After his vehicle broke down, the driver, 36-year-old William Holloway, was taken into custody. He is currently facing several serious charges, including first-degree murder.
Pima County deputies were called to a domestic violence incident in the early evening near Catalina Highway and Melpomene Way. The victim informed PCSD that her boyfriend had consumed an illegal substance prior to driving her up Mt. Lemmon, and refused to stop the vehicle to allow her to exit.
The PCSD reported that deputies were able to catch up to the vehicle, but Holloway chose to disregard their commands. He took them on a chase around the mountain, reaching speeds of 25 to 45 miles per hour.
The pursuit came to a halt when the victim bravely jumped out of the vehicle, resulting in severe injuries. Holloway kept on driving.
Despite the best efforts of medical personnel, she tragically passed away at a local hospital. Soon after, deputies discovered Holloway and his vehicle, which had a flat tire.
Holloway faces charges of kidnapping, murder, and evading law enforcement. His criminal record in Pima County goes as far back as 2008, including convictions for armed robbery, third-degree burglary, attempted fraud, and trafficking stolen property.
He remains in custody on a bond of $750,000 while PCSD’s investigation remains ongoing.
