A Las Vegas family is determined to locate the parents of a child after discovering the urn in a stolen vehicle.
While cleaning out his truck after it was stolen, Ahmad Ervin, 42, discovered an urn belonging to a child, marked with the name Marcel Akarhi Alexander.
Ervin, who runs a moving company, experienced a shocking turn of events on the morning of Wednesday, Sept. 25, when he discovered that his truck had been stolen from outside his home in Las Vegas, Nev., as he recounted in an interview with PEOPLE.
Following the submission of a police report, he took it upon himself to search for his truck. With assistance from tips provided by some individuals experiencing homelessness, he successfully located it early in the morning on Sunday, Sept. 29.
Ervin later searched the truck and discovered numerous items that appeared to be stolen, including a wallet and purses, which were promptly collected by the police as evidence.
According to his account, Ervin found himself tasked with sorting through the leftover belongings in the truck, which included a significant amount of clothing.
The inscription on the urn indicates that the child entered the world on January 7, 2020, and departed on February 20, 2020. The urn features a charming miniature sculpture of a sleeping baby, gently cradled in delicate angel wings.
Ervin expressed his reluctance to dispose of the ashes, prompting him to search for the family or parents they might belong to.
Ervin’s girlfriend reached out to her sister, Danielle Belin, to share the news about the ashes. Belin, 50, shares her own experience of losing children, as she reveals to PEOPLE.
Belin set the urn beside those of her four departed children.
She contacted a nearby funeral home by following the name on the urn. The investigation remains unresolved as of the latest update.
Belin is actively promoting her mission on social media and reports that the feedback has been “overwhelming,” with numerous individuals eager to assist her.
