A tragic incident has occurred in Washington, where a 4-year-old girl has lost her life after falling from a fifth-floor apartment window.
On Sunday, Oct. 13, an incident occurred at the Echo Lake Apartments, situated at 1160 North 192nd Street, according to a report from Fox 13 Seattle, referencing the King County Sheriff’s Office.
According to witnesses who talked to the news station, a Good Samaritan tried to perform CPR on the child until first responders got there. Unfortunately, the young girl succumbed to her injuries after being taken to a hospital.
The King County Medical Examiner has determined that blunt force trauma to the head was the cause of death. The examiner determined that Mi’layah’s death was accidental, according to KIRO 7.
“I went around the back after I heard someone screaming,” Andre Alexander, a witness to the situation, told KIRO 7. “When I went back there, I seen the young lady, the little girl had fell out the window.”
He added, “There’s a young man who’s a real hero. This young man did over four and a half minutes of CPR by himself.”
Najaha Chancellor, the child’s mother, shared that she was at home alone in the bathroom, keeping an eye on her four young children when the unfortunate incident took place.
The Chancellor reported that the 4-year-old was bouncing on the bed during playtime with her siblings.
“She bumped into… the screen fell off and she went down, and I completely lost it,” the grieving parent said. “As a mother, it’s your job. It’s your job to protect your children at all costs.”
The Chancellor expressed that while she is grieving, she must remain resilient for her three other children.
“I’m just trying to keep it together as any mother would try to do. I still have three other kids to show I have to be strong for. So crying is going to make kids even more emotional,” she said. “I’m never ever going to get over this because it’s different when it’s your child that you lose. It’s absolutely different.”
