Toddler Critically Injured after Impaired Couple Slammed Car in Louisiana: Drunk Man and Woman Arrested

A toddler was hurt in a collision involving two vehicles, and the State Police announced on Monday that they had arrested two drivers from Baton Rouge for driving under the influence of alcohol in West Feliciana Parish.

Zaria Brown, age 23, and Walter Lopez, age 29, were both taken into custody on Sunday evening for driving under the influence of alcohol and for motor vehicle negligence causing harm. Following the injury sustained by the three-year-old child who was in Brown’s vehicle, Brown was additionally charged with driving while intoxicated with the intent to endanger a child.

The accident occurred on United States Route 61 north of Louisiana State Highway 10 at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Sunday night. Brown was heading in the opposite direction, according to the investigators, while Lopez was traveling south.

The Toyota Rav4 driven by Lopez crossed the median and collided with the Nissan Kicks driven by Brown.

Lopez was sent to a local hospital after the collision, where he was found to have suffered severe injuries. During the collision, he was reportedly under the influence of alcohol, which led to his arrest by the State Police.

According to the State Police, Brown, who was not restrained at the time of the collision, also sustained critical injuries and was sent to a hospital for immediate treatment. In addition, she exhibited indicators of impairment, which led to her police arrest.

In the West Feliciana Parish Jail, both of the individuals who were arrested were booked as reported by WBRZ News.
