Two parents in Gallatin are facing several charges related to child abuse after their three children were discovered living in terrible conditions.
On Friday, Oct. 18, documents submitted to the Daviess County, Missouri, Circuit Court disclosed that Cassondra D. Rhoads, 38, from Gallatin, and her husband, Cory A. Rhoads, 38, face three counts of child abuse due to their children being discovered in terrible living conditions.
On Wednesday, Oct. 16, the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office reported that law enforcement officials responded to calls regarding child endangerment in the vicinity of W. Johnson and S. Daviess St. in Gallatin.
Upon arrival, law enforcement officials reported that the home was in a state of extreme disrepair and unsanitary conditions. The only path remaining in the house was littered with animal droppings. The kids struggled to navigate their surroundings, climbing over heaps of garbage and rubble. The smell in the house was unbearable.
Authorities observed that upon the children’s arrival at school on Wednesday, at least one of them required a shower because of the unpleasant smell. During this event, animal waste was observed stuck to the soles of their feet. All three kids were taken out of the house.
As of Monday, neither Cassondra nor Cory seems to be in custody. Arrest warrants have been issued for them, and no hearings have been set for the case at this time.
