Several allegations of human smuggling have been brought against a Border Patrol agent, according to the authorities in Texas.
According to the documents kept at the Cameron County Jail, Jorge Alonso was taken into custody and charged with smuggling individual individuals as well as criminal conspiracy.
On the 22nd of May, Alonso was taken into custody by investigators from the Cameron County District Attorney’s Office, the United States Customs and Border Protection Office of Professional Responsibility, and the McAllen Field Office of Homeland Security.
It has been reported by the District Attorney’s Office of Cameron County that Alonso is an agent with the United States Border Patrol.
A migrant was encouraged and taught by Alonso to enter the United States at a port of entry and to establish a claim of legal status, as stated in a press release.
In addition, according to the announcement, “Alonso is accused of providing a fraudulent United States Birth Certificate.”
Based on the birth certificate, the authorities stated that the purpose of the conspiracy was to provide a foundation for other illegal crossings to take place without authorization.
It was noted by the District Attorney that this particular form of smuggling act is considered a special third-degree felony and carries a required minimum jail sentence of ten years.
It is stated in the jail records that Alonso is awaiting arraignment. The situation is still being looked into by authorities.
