Honk News (Chambers County, TX) – A former educator from Barbers Hill High School has been re-arrested following fresh allegations concerning an inappropriate relationship with a student in 2023.
Molly Colleen Spears was taken into custody on February 27, facing two charges related to the sexual assault of a minor.
This apprehension marks the most recent development in a series of judicial actions connected to the event. On February 8, 2024, a grand jury in Chambers County indicted Spears for the charge of having an improper relationship with a student. An arrest warrant was issued four days later; however, Spears was not taken into custody until Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2025, when her attorney announced that she voluntarily surrendered to the Chambers County Jail.
Spears was released from custody earlier this month after securing a $50,000 bond related to the inappropriate relationship allegation. The Mont Belvieu Police Department has set her bond at $200,000 for the two new charges. Spears was taken into custody by MBPD on the latest charges early Thursday morning.

Spears faces allegations of having sexual contact and intercourse with a male student while she was a teacher at Barbers Hill High School. According to court records, she reached out via text message and a commercial online service to arrange a meeting with the student.
No specifics regarding the allegations against Spears were disclosed at that time. Her prior role was that of a language arts educator at the high school level.
Following her first arrest, Spears’ legal representative, Christopher L. Tritico, provided this statement:
“Ms. Spears was first notified of the charges two days ago and we acted immediately to get the bond set up and in place. I cannot speak to why it sat for so dormant for so long. That is a question for the other side of the isle. Ms. Spears looks forward to having an opportunity to confront the allegations and to finally put this matter behind her.”
Records from the Texas Education Agency indicate that Spears is facing an investigation regarding a misconduct allegation, though a formal conclusion has yet to be reached.
