A Texas man has been taken into custody and is facing charges of attempted capital murder following an incident where he assaulted a pregnant woman, resulting in the tragic loss of her preborn child.
A Facebook post from the Karnes County Sheriff’s Department reported that Carlos M. Carrasco has been held responsible for the tragic loss of a young life.
The incident occurred when Carrasco engaged in a physical altercation with his partner on May 20. According to the Sheriff’s Department, it has been concluded that Carrasco deliberately attacked the mother to harm the fetus.
The unborn child passed away a few days after the attack as reported by Live Action News.
According to the report, Carrasco allegedly caused harm to the mother and child by obstructing the woman’s breathing and making threats with a knife and firearm. After the incident, he was arrested for multiple family violence crimes and later released on bond.
However, he subsequently fled the area. After the preborn child’s death was confirmed, a charge of attempted capital murder was filed and an additional warrant was issued. The United States Marshals Service-Lone Star Fugitive Task Force played a crucial role in locating Carrasco and apprehending him.

A grand jury in Karnes County has handed down multiple indictments against Carrasco, including charges of attempted capital murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon (two counts), assault involving impeding breath or circulation in a family violence context, and assault against a pregnant woman. The case will be sent to the 81st Judicial District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
While the mother managed to survive the attack, it is important to note that domestic violence and homicide pose significant threats to pregnant women. Unfortunately, homicide is a significant cause of death among pregnant women in the United States. It claims more lives than three common obstetric causes of maternal death, namely high blood pressure disorders, hemorrhage, and sepsis.
While Carrasco’s motives remain unclear, there have been instances where individuals have committed acts of violence against their partners or caused harm to their unborn children due to their reluctance to start a family.
