A prison officer who had previously worked for the Texas Juvenile Justice Department has been taken into custody by the authorities in Edinburg on allegations that are connected to crimes that were perpetrated against children when they were detained there.
There have been at least three claims of indecency with a minor lodged against Gerardo Puente, who is 27 years old. These allegations include two offenses of exposure and one crime of contact respectively. On Monday, he was taken into custody.
In the month of June, the investigation that ultimately resulted in the arrest was initiated, and it was said that the incidences occurred in the months of May and June of 2024.
It has been reported that Puente handled the genitalia of a victim while he was working as an officer at the Evins Regional Juvenile Center in Edinburg. They believe that the victim exposed herself to him on two separate occasions when he asked her to do so.
When it comes to the contact charge, the maximum possible term is twenty years in prison, while the exposure counts might result in a sentence of up to ten years in prison. Both of these counts are considered to be third-degree crimes.
