Hartsville, SC: Following the issuance of warrants, the Pee Dee police department has taken into custody a teacher who is accused of having inappropriate contact with a juvenile.
According to the Hartsville Police Department, Gilbert Burgess, a teacher at Butler Academy, was providing after-school tutoring to a student who was under the age of 18. The young person was not enrolled at Butler Academy as a student. The Hartsville Memorial Library was the location where the alleged inappropriate contact took place on March 30, 2017.
The charges against Burgess include criminal sexual behavior in the second degree with a minor who is between the ages of 11 and 14 years old. W. Glenn Campbell Detention Center is where he is now being kept currently.
