According to a statement released by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday, a teacher is being investigated for criminal charges after it was alleged that he had an inappropriate interaction with a pupil.
They got a report in April concerning a relationship between a teacher and a student at Lee County High School, according to the deputies who responded to the scenario.
They stated that they were able to identify the instructor as Frank Mauricio De Leon, who is 56 years old and lives in Sanford.
According to the website of the sheriff’s office, “items of evidence” were taken into custody after deputies carried out a search order at the residence of De Leon.
Additionally, evidence of “numerous unrelated criminal offenses” was discovered during the search, which was carried out with the assistance of the Computer Crimes Unit of the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, according to the investigators.

De Leon was charged with many crimes after his arrest on Thursday:
- One count of indecent liberties with a minor
- Three counts of felony secret peeping
- Second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor
Throughout the course of my work, I have been involved in a number of investigations, both both directly and indirectly. According to the Lee County Sheriff Brian Estes, “These kinds of crimes are the absolute most difficult for our investigators, the victims, and the families of the victims.”
His bond was set at $250,000, and he was taken into custody and transferred to the Lee County Jail.
Apparently, De Leon is no longer working for the Lee County Schools district, according to a representative for the district.
Specifically, he stated that his office will make every possible effort to identify and eliminate predators and prevent them from entering the neighborhood.
