A suspicious package was discovered on the church premises in Sugar Land, prompting St. Laurence Catholic School to dismiss students early Thursday.
According to Sugar Land police, the decision to close early was done out of extreme caution. While there is no immediate threat to students or staff, more officers from the Sugar Land Police Department have been called in to help and secure the campus.
An inquiry of the shipment is now ongoing. A source said that the package was dropped near the school’s chapel, although officials have not confirmed this.
Sugar Land police said that a person of interest has been apprehended and identified in connection with the incident. The individual has been apprehended.
Parents were instructed to pick up their children utilizing standard car rider procedures and were advised not to leave their vehicles during departure.
The school underlined that all children are safe, and there is no immediate threat to the school community.
