A woman from Elmira was taken into custody on Monday for allegedly receiving close to $2,000 in benefits that she was not eligible for.
Christina Woodard, 55, was taken into custody on Monday, Oct. 28, facing multiple felony charges.
These include:
- One count of welfare fraud in the fourth degree,
- One count of grand larceny in the fourth degree.
According to the Elmira Police, two counts of offering a false instrument for filing in the first degree are class E felonies.
Woodard is accused of committing fraud by submitting two applications for public assistance to the Chemung County Department of Social Services while failing to disclose household income, which is required.
According to Elmira Police, Woodard received $1,792 in food stamp benefits for which she was not eligible.
