The state of California achieved the title of “hottest city in the United States” in the month of July, surpassing Arizona by a narrow margin.
According to the Climate Office at Arizona State University, Needles, a landmark along Route 66 that is located on the border between the two states, was the city with the highest average temperature in the United States during the month of January.
Between the 30th of June and the 30th of July, Needles maintained an average temperature of 103.2 degrees, which qualified it for that renowned title.
By posting a statement on X, which was formerly known as Twitter, the climate office stated that “Phoenix is happy to relinquish the record to Needles, now the hottest monthly U.S. city.”
The average temperature in Phoenix was 101.1 degrees, which was not too far behind.
Both of the hottest cities in the United States share only one thing in common: heat.
There are around 1.61 million people living in Phoenix, making it the fifth-largest city in the county in terms of population. Needles, on the other hand, has a population of slightly less than 5,000 permanent people, despite the fact that it is a significant traffic hub along Interstate 40 and that it borders the Colorado River.
In the month of July, temperatures in Blythe and Palm Springs, both located in California, averaged more than one hundred degrees.
