A middle school guidance counselor in Norwalk has been arrested on charges of sexually assaulting a male student.
Authorities have been conducting an investigation following a complaint made on April 30 regarding an alleged inappropriate relationship between a Norwalk public school employee and a student.
According to the authorities, Luisa Melchionne, a guidance counselor at Nathan Hale Middle School, has been found to have engaged in a sexual relationship with a male student. As a result, an arrest warrant has been issued for her.
A New Canaan resident named Melchionne was arrested on Thursday. He is facing charges of sexual assault in the second degree and two counts of risk of injury to a minor.
She has been let go by the Norwalk Public Schools. Based on the arrest warrant, it has been alleged that Melchionne engaged in inappropriate communication with a student via her cell phone and provided the student with financial assistance.
According to the warrant, the student informed the police that he had received explicit photos from Melchionne.
During the investigation, it was revealed that the student informed the police about additional incidents involving Melchionne. These incidents allegedly involved inappropriate touching and other sexual acts, which took place behind closed doors with the blinds drawn for privacy, according to the arrest warrant.
The student informed the police that the funds were allocated for Uber rides and meals. Additionally, he mentioned receiving $100 during the Christmas season in 2023.
Ensuring the well-being of our students is our top priority. Luisa Melchionne has left her position at Norwalk Public Schools. A statement from Norwalk Public Schools states that they are cooperating with the investigation by the Norwalk Police Department and have no additional comments.
The bond for Melchionne was set at $500,000 as reported by NBC Connecticut.
