Riverside Cop Arrested with 100 Pounds of Fentanyl Worked for Cartel, Report Says

Riverside, CA: A former deputy of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office was apprehended last year in connection with an investigation into the cartel that was once headed by the notorious drug lord “El Chapo,” as reported in the Press-Enterprise. The suspect was found with over 100 pounds of fentanyl pills.

Correctional deputy Jorge Oceguera-Rocha, a 25-year-old inhabitant of Banning, resigned upon his arrest in September 2023.

Authorities said that he was apprehended in Calimesa while operating a private vehicle. Police said they discovered 104 pounds of fentanyl pills and a firearm in his vehicle.

While the exact method by which investigators became aware of Oceguera-Rocha’s suspected drug trafficking involvement remains unclear, the news-Enterprise has learned that he was the “corrupt Riverside County Correctional Deputy” referred to in a news release promoting Operation Hotline Bling on Wednesday.

An operation targeting the Inland Empire operations of the Sinaloa cartel resulted in the arrest of fifteen individuals and the confiscation of drugs valued at sixteen million dollars.

Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, who may have been the most famous and influential drug lord since Pablo Escobar’s heyday in the 1980s and early 1990s, was formerly in charge of that organization.
