Gridley, CA: A teacher in Gridley sexually abused a 14-year-old boy after friending him on Instagram.
The boy’s parents heard rumors about the abuse and reported it to the police.
The former teacher from Northern California entered a guilty plea to allegations that, on the day of the student’s eighth-grade graduation, she had sexually assaulted the 14-year-old.
Michelle Christine Solis entered a no-contest plea when she appeared in Butte County Superior Court on Tuesday morning, according to a press statement from the Butte County District Attorney’s Office.
The district attorney’s office stated that Solis, 46, was not anticipated to enter a no-contest plea; yet, she ultimately “admitted her guilt.”

The event happened in June 2021 while Solis was the boy’s teacher at Sycamore Junior High School in Gridley, California, according to Butte County District Attorney Mike Ramsey.
In the weeks preceding his graduation, “she ‘friended’ him on Instagram and started messaging him,” the district attorney’s office stated in a press release this week. “Evidence indicated that on the day of the student’s eighth-grade graduation, Solis sent the boy four explicit photos of herself before engaging in sexual activity with him in a locked classroom.”
In October 2023, rumors about the pictures started circulating in the Gridley neighborhood. Copies of the pictures she sent the youngster also appeared online.
When the boy’s parents learned about the incident, Gridley police started looking into the rumors and took possession of the boy’s cellphone, according to The Sacramento Bee. According to the district attorney’s office, when investigators looked through the boy’s iPhone, they discovered “two explicit photographs of Solis.”
Following his arrest in November of last year, Solis quickly paid a $15,000 bond. The district attorney’s office says she will be free on bond until her sentencing on June 6.
“Solis stipulated in her plea agreement today that she would be considered a sexual offender and may face a maximum sentence of four years in state prison,” the office stated.
