An elderly woman believed to be the grandmother of the suspect involved in a drive-by shooting in Eastpointe on Tuesday, has been apprehended in relation to the incident.
The incident occurred on the 16000 block of Forest Avenue around 1 a.m. No one was injured when Tyler Michael Fistler, 21, allegedly fired multiple shots into the home, according to Detective Lt. Alexander Holish. Authorities located the suspect at his residence in Casco Township, where he and another individual later turned themselves into law enforcement.
The Eastpointe Police Department’s Detective Bureau, Special Investigations Unit, and Special Response Team conducted a thorough investigation and successfully recovered hidden evidence belonging to the suspects, thanks to the cooperation of the homeowner. The homeowner was subsequently apprehended.
Three suspects have been charged by the Macomb County Prosecutors Office: Fistler, Derek Morris, 51, of Port Huron, and his mother, Geraldine Morris, 81, of Roseville. County Prosecutor Peter Lucido has confirmed that Derek Morris is Fistler’s father.
Fistler is currently in custody at the Macomb County Jail on a bond of $1 million. He is facing nine charges, including assault with intent to murder, computer crime, evidence tampering, weapons violations, and misuse of a telecommunications device.
Derek Morris is facing a range of charges, including conspiracy to commit assault with intent to murder, being an accessory after the fact to a felony, lying to a peace officer, engaging in criminal communication through computer-internet, and malicious use of telecommunication services. The bond amount was set at $500,000, to be paid in cash or surety.
Jaraldine Morris is currently in custody at the Macomb County Jail on a bond of $50,000. She is facing charges of tampering with evidence, being an accessory after the fact to a felony, and lying to a peace officer as reported by The Oakland Press.
Based on the initial investigation by Eastpointe police, it appears that the victim, whose residence was the focus of the incident, had an ongoing conflict with his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend, Fistler. According to Lucido, the defendants had issued online threats against the target.
