Principal Failed to Report Crime in North Carolina, Teacher Accused of Inappropriate Relationship: Kannapolis Police

A principal and a teacher from a middle school in Cabarrus County have been arrested and charged after an investigation into inappropriate conduct involving a minor and a student, according to an announcement from Kannapolis Police on Wednesday.

On October 4, 2024, an investigation began following a complaint about Kendra Brown Woods, 42, the principal at Concord Lake STEAM Academy in Charlotte, concerning her alleged failure to report a crime.

After an extensive investigation lasting several weeks, Ms. Woods faces charges for failing to report abuse and for not reporting crimes involving minors. She was arrested and taken to the Mecklenburg County Jail.

An investigation has uncovered allegations against a 23-year-old teacher, Tyler Woods, from Kannapolis, regarding an inappropriate relationship with a student. A man has been arrested and is currently being held on a $100,000 bond at the Cabarrus County Jail. He is confronted with several allegations, which include three counts of inappropriate conduct with a child and sharing obscene material with a minor.

Authorities have confirmed that Ms. Woods and Mr. Woods are not connected by family ties.
