Pregnant Woman Dead after Crash; Driver High on Marijuana Arrested in Tennessee

A man was arrested following a collision on Raccoon Valley Road in Knoxville that resulted in the deaths of two individuals and an unborn child.

According to the Rural Metro Fire Department, emergency personnel responded to a head-on collision at the intersection of Hausmond Way and Raccoon Valley Road at approximately 6 p.m. on Friday.

According to court records, Jonathon Jones, a 20-year-old resident of Luttrell, was operating a Nissan Sentra in the eastbound lane of Raccoon Valley Road when he entered the westbound lane and collided with a Ford Expedition.

Numerous witnesses informed troopers that Jones was driving recklessly and was passing other vehicles on a double yellow line prior to the collision.

Rural Metro officials stated that “a number of individuals were ensnared in the debris and required rescue.” Five individuals were injured and transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center for treatment, as indicated by court documents.

Court records indicate that Casandra Jones, the sole occupant in Jonathon’s vehicle, was declared deceased, along with her unborn child.

The driver and two occupants of the Ford were all injured, according to the police. Virginia Brooks, one of the passengers, passed away at the hospital on Saturday morning as per WVLT News.

A trooper informed Jonathon that he had bloodshot, moist eyes while conversing with him at UT Medical Center. Additionally, he disclosed to the trooper that he consumed marijuana on a daily basis.

Jones was indicted on two counts of aggravated assault, three counts of vehicular homicide by intoxication, and improper passing.

The mishap investigation is being conducted by the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
