Postal Complaint Investigation led to 4 Richmond-Area workers facing serious charges

Richmond, VA: People living in Central Virginia who have reported their mail being late or even stolen are concerned about this new piece of the jigsaw.

There have been four distinct employees of the United States Postal Service who worked in the Richmond area and have now been charged for either stealing mail or obstructing the delivery of mail.

According to the documents filed with the court, Dominique Burch Sr. is currently facing charges of obstruction of mail. It is alleged that he removed 18,225 pieces of mail from the mail stream and stored them in storage lockers located within an apartment complex while he was working for the United States Postal Service.

Jessica D. Aber, who is the United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, introduced the charge against the defendant. It is believed that the mail contained statements of financial and bank accounts, in addition to letters about the election.

On Friday, the office of Aber distributed a news statement that detailed the case of a different employee who had entered a guilty plea to the charge of mail theft.

Court filings indicate that Wendy Lawrence, a former employee, took several valuable items for her personal use, including gift cards, checks, and other items. According to law enforcement officials, they retrieved mail from Lawrence’s apartment that belonged to more than 180 victims.

Not only did Lawrence allegedly try to divert mail from a victim to her address, but she also allegedly utilized the bank account and routing information from stolen checks to make electronic payments for her expenses.

It is now possible for Lawrence to receive a maximum sentence of five years in jail.
