A man from Olathe is facing charges of sexually abusing and molesting a child in his home for an extended period of time. This is the second time he has been accused of child sexual abuse, as stated in a lawsuit filed in Johnson County court recently.
A lawsuit alleges that Jason Jerrod Barrett, 43, a former Olathe School District paraprofessional, engaged in repeated inappropriate sexual contact with a child for a year. Barrett is facing another accusation of child sexual crimes in Johnson County court, marking the second time this year.
Barrett has experience working for the Olathe School District as a special education paraprofessional. They worked there from 2003 to 2005, and then again from August 2009 to May 2023.
A lawsuit was filed by the child’s guardian on behalf of the child, who remains unnamed in court documents to protect their privacy.
The lawsuit also includes Olathe businesses KVC Health Systems and KVC Foundations Inc., for their alleged involvement in connecting Barrett with the child.
According to court documents, the alleged abuse occurred consistently throughout 2023. According to the lawsuit, the child expressed concerns about his safety during the alleged instances of abuse. The lawsuit also claims that KVC had prior knowledge of Barrett’s past actions, yet still played a role in connecting Barrett with the child.
The child and his guardian are pursuing a compensation of over $75,000 through a jury trial.
New allegations against Barrett were filed in criminal court on June 28. Barrett faces charges of aggravated indecent liberties with a child and furnishing intoxicants to a minor, stemming from an incident that reportedly took place on Sept. 29, 2023.
According to court documents, Barrett is accused of engaging in inappropriate behavior with a minor aged between 14 and 16, following the provision of alcohol.
