A former private school teacher has been arrested and charged with taking indecent liberties with a student, as reported by the Winston-Salem Police Department.
Officers in Winston-Salem were called to the 130 block of South Peace Haven Road on May 9 regarding a concerning situation involving a teacher from Calvary Day School and a student.
Officials from WSPD have initiated an investigation. The Special Victims Unit collected evidence for a period of more than three months as part of their investigation.
Kevin Edward Campbell, 33, of East Bend, was apprehended and charged on Thursday afternoon.
He is facing two serious charges of indecent liberties with a student.
Campbell was granted a $150,000 unsecured bond.
Campbell’s employment contract was terminated on June 3, according to the CDS. According to reports, he worked as a physical education and Bible teacher at the high school from Feb. 22, 2022, to June 3, 2024.
The school released the following statement on Thursday:
In May, we were informed of an allegation that Mr. Campbell had engaged in inappropriate behavior with a student. After receiving this information, we immediately contacted the Winston-Salem police department and shared with them what we knew. We also placed Mr. Campbell on leave pending the police investigation. On June 3, 2024 we terminated Mr. Campbell’s employment contract. While this criminal legal process continues, we are committed to fully cooperating with the appropriate authorities regarding these allegations as well as any additional information we may learn.
