New Mexico Parents Kept their 8 Kids in Underground Caves; Arrested after Oldest Child Reveal Molestation

Honk News (Deming, NM) – A shocking incident of child abuse has emerged from Deming. A couple has been arrested by New Mexico State Police for allegedly confining their eight children in underground caves adjacent to their residence. Authorities reported that they became aware of the couple following a revelation of sexual abuse made by their eldest child to a Youth Challenge counselor in Roswell.

Legal filings reveal that eight children endured appalling circumstances and were compelled to engage in sexual activities. NMSP officers described the living conditions at the property as “so appalling that it was beyond comprehension” during their visit.

Authorities have named the individuals involved as 50-year-old Melvin Cordell and 41-year-old Valerie Cordell. They are each confronted with 16 charges related to child abuse. All eight children are currently under the care of the New Mexico Children, Youth, and Families Department.
