Honk News (Madison, NB) – A former teacher from Madison Public Schools faced court on Friday, where they entered a not-guilty plea regarding allegations of first-degree sexual abuse involving a student.
Nixel Ortiz, 29, will appear for a pretrial hearing on March 7, followed by a jury trial slated for April 14.
In May 2024, Ortiz was taken into custody following an investigation by the Nebraska State Patrol. Court documents reveal that Ortiz initiated contact with an 18-year-old student from Madison High School during the winter break of 2023. The two are said to have communicated through text messages, Instagram, and Snapchat.
Ortiz informed investigators that following a graduation celebration on May 5, she collected the student, whom she thought was 19 years old, and brought them to her residence. Reports claim that the two engaged in a sexual encounter on May 6 prior to Ortiz driving the student home.
