A Holdrege resident is now facing a more serious charge following the tragic death of a child, which is believed to have resulted from abuse.
Jason Remmenga, a 24-year-old individual, is facing charges related to intentional child abuse resulting in death, as well as two counts of intentional child abuse.
The previous charge was elevated due to the commission of deliberate child abuse that led to harm.
Remmenga had previously entered a plea of not guilty to the charge, as well as the other two child abuse charges.
Last month, Remmenga brought his five-month-old daughter to the emergency room at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, as reported by Holdrege police.
Medical professionals at the facility concluded that the young girl had suffered significant trauma as a result of child abuse according to Fox Nebraska.
Phelps County Attorney Natalie Nelsen-Pacey has reported that the unfortunate incident occurred on June 9th at the Children’s Hospital in Omaha, resulting in the tragic loss of a five-month-old.
Remmenga chose not to attend his scheduled court appearance in Phelps County Court on Thursday, opting instead to waive his arraignment and plead not guilty. The next court date is not listed in the court records.
