Michigan Couple Let Vicious Dogs Out in Yard which Led to Fatal Attack on Father of Six

Honk News – (Detroit, MI) –  Detroit dog owners face sentencing following the tragic mauling of a father of six.

On Friday, the owners of the three dogs involved in the tragic mauling of a Detroit father of six received their sentences, with the male defendant facing prison time and his wife being granted probation.

Roy Goodman has been sentenced to a prison term ranging from 30 months to 15 years following the fatal incident involving Harold Phillips, who was attacked by Goodman’s dogs in Detroit in January of the previous year.

Trevina Goodman has been sentenced to three years of probation, which entails completing community service and a restriction on possessing animals.

Roy Goodman confessed to allowing the dogs outside into the yard on the day of Phillips’ death. He informed the authorities that he knew the latch on the fence was damaged, which allowed them to get away.

In January of the previous year, an incident occurred in the vicinity of West Chicago and Longacre when the dogs got out through a gate that was not properly secured.

Phillips was put on life support following the attack. He was coming back from a trip to the mall, where he had been shopping for attire for an upcoming job interview on January 29.

He passed away on February 2nd. During the sentencing, Shauntaye Phillips, the wife of Harold, expressed to the judge that she has cried every single day since the passing of her husband.

“I never imagined having to watch him die so tragically – I’m just trying to do the best I can for my kids now, because it’s so hard to grow without a parent,” she said.

Additionally, she shared remarks from several of the Phillips’ offspring.

Roxanne Clark, the godmother of the victim’s child, shared her memories of the day she took the children to the hospital to bid farewell to their father.

“I could hear their fear,” she told the courtroom as she recalled describing the injuries to Harold Phillips. “Being a dog owner holds just as much responsibility as being a parent.”
