Rochester, NY: Tragedy struck in Rochester, New York, on Sunday evening as shots were fired at a large gathering, resulting in one fatality and at least six injuries.
Rochester Police Department Captain Greg Bello informed reporters that the police were called to Maplewood Park around 6:20 p.m. on Sunday in response to reports of gunshots being fired at a crowded gathering.
Upon the officers’ arrival, they found that several individuals had sustained gunshot wounds.
According to Bello, there was a fatality from a shooting incident, with several others sustaining gunshot wounds. The investigation is ongoing and details are subject to change.
Bello reported that six people were taken to nearby hospitals, with one of them in critical condition.
Regarding the individual who tragically lost their life, law enforcement has only disclosed that the victim was an adult in their 20s. Investigators are currently informing the victim’s next of kin and family, and no further details have been released.
According to a report from Rochester First, multiple law enforcement agencies, such as the Irondequoit Police, Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Rochester Police, and New York State Police, were called to the crime scene.
Authorities are urging individuals who have captured videos or photos of the incident to reach out to investigators via the Major Crimes Unit or Crime Stoppers, instead of sharing them on social media. Police are urging anyone with information to contact either 311 or 911.
