A man from Elmira is facing assault charges following an incident on Wednesday evening, where he allegedly attacked and seriously injured another individual using a hammer.
Authorities in Elmira have named the suspect as 19-year-old Jacob S. Buckley.
At approximately 10:18 p.m. on Wednesday, police responded to a call regarding a disturbance at a home on Magee Street in the Northside, where it was reported that an individual had been hit in the head with a hammer.
Officers on the scene found the victim with several head injuries. Authorities reported that the victim was taken to Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre with injuries that are not life-threatening.
Authorities found that the individual, absent from the location upon their arrival, had a connection to the victim.

Following the investigation, authorities have charged Buckley with first-degree assault, a Class B felony that carries a prison sentence of five to 25 years, along with endangering the welfare of a child, which is classified as a misdemeanor.
Buckley entered a not-guilty plea to the charges during his arraignment on Thursday morning at the City of Elmira Court. He was taken to the Chemung County Jail with a cash bail set at $40,000.
The Elmira Police Department received support from the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police, Elmira Fire Department, and Erway Ambulance.
