A Tennessee man is in jail after stabbing his pregnant ex-girlfriend ten times in what police claim was his third attack on her this summer.
Around 8:40 p.m. on Friday, Memphis police rushed to a parking lot in the 1500 block of Havana Street on the city’s south side. Paramedics located the woman with multiple stab wounds and transported her to the hospital. She subsequently told officers she was walking with several companions when her ex-boyfriend, Deandre Wilkins, 35, approached her and hit her in the face, according to a criminal complaint.
He then allegedly took out a kitchen knife and repeatedly stabbed the woman, telling her, “I told you I was going to get you.” She survived the incident and allegedly recognized Wilkins in a photo lineup. The couple had been together for approximately a year before breaking up a few months ago. The woman is pregnant with his child.
This is the third time Wilkins has allegedly assaulted her since July. On July 24, Wilkins allegedly hit her three or four times in the face before stealing her purse. The victim didn’t immediately disclose the assault.
On August 5, Wilkins reportedly held the woman and her four children captive in their residence. According to the criminal complaint, Wilkins hit her in the mouth and threatened to kill her if she tried to leave. He also allegedly grabbed up a kettlebell weight and declared, “I will smash your face in if you try to leave!” Police detained Wilkins on accusations of serious assault, domestic violence, and four counts of false imprisonment. The victim also told police about the July 24 incident, and they added charges of robbery and domestic violence, according to records.
Wilkins paid the $60,000 bond to be released from jail, but a judge issued a bench warrant for his arrest on August 20 when he failed to appear in court, according to records. Prosecutors allege he has prior convictions for aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, aggravated robbery, and burglary. Wilkins is currently on probation, according to the Tennessee Department of Corrections.
Wilkins is currently in the Shelby County Jail on a $2 million bond for attempted murder and domestic assault.
