Man Enters Guilty Plea in Drug Case in Wyoming, was apprehended during Traffic Stop in Cheyenne with loads of Drugs

Cheyenne, WY: Gary Young, a resident of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, has entered a guilty plea to charges of marijuana possession with the intent to deliver. In exchange for his cooperation, additional charges will be dismissed and probation will be recommended.

In October 2023, Laramie County Sheriff’s Deputy Joshua Gebauer executed a routine traffic stop along Interstate 80. The apprehension resulted in the identification of Young and a co-defendant as they were carrying 65 pounds of marijuana with the intention of distributing it in Brooklyn, New York, as stated in the affidavit of probable cause.

Gebauer initiated the halt after improper lane changes in the vicinity of a construction zone initially revealed the operation. Arrests were made subsequent to a search conducted by a K-9 unit of the Wyoming Highway Patrol, which corroborated the presence of a controlled substance.

The inquiry unveiled that the suspects commenced their voyage from San Francisco, California, with a meager amount of less than $1,500 in their possession, which they claimed was payment for their delivery. In addition, the identification of vacuum-sealed marijuana products within their vehicle suggested potential distribution intentions.

The court will dismiss charges of marijuana possession and conspiracy to manufacture, deliver, or possess marijuana at the sentencing following Young’s guilty plea. The state will propose a suspended sentence of three to five years with three years of supervised probation as an alternative. Sentencing is tentatively planned for a later time.
