Man Arrested in New York in a Decade-old Child Abuse Case: Investigation Reveals

An Elmira Heights man was taken into custody on a charge that is connected to the sexual abuse of a child that is said to have occurred ten years ago.

After an inquiry that lasted for several months and involved allegations of abuse, Christopher McCheyne, age 28, was taken into custody. According to the Elmira Heights Police Department, the investigation was initiated in April 2024 when two persons came forward with knowledge regarding the alleged abuse that had occurred.

According to the police, the two individuals come forward with allegations that McCheyne sexually molested them approximately ten years ago, over the course of two years. With McCheyne being 18 years old at the time of the alleged abuse, the accused victims were between the ages of five and six years old at the time of the incident.

There were multiple victims of the predatory sexual assault that McCheyne was accused of committing, which is a class A2 crime.

After the charge against McCheyne was read in the Elmira Heights Court, he was transported to the Chemung County Jail for further processing. At this time, he is being kept without the possibility of bail at the jail.

Additionally, the Chemung County Child Advocacy Center provided assistance to the Elmira Heights Police Department in the course of this inquiry.
