Teacher From Worcester’s South High Charged With Child Rape in Rutland Case

A teacher in Worcester is being charged with raping a child after police in his hometown of Rutland looked into claims of sexual attacks that happened over a period of time.

Says a school spokeswoman, there is no sign that any of the victims are from Worcester Public Schools.

Shawn Baillargeon, 54, was arrested on Tuesday on charges of rape of a child, aggravated rape of a child, and indecent assault and abuse on a child under 14 years old. He has taught at South High Community School.

A 2014 article in Worcester Magazine says that Baillargeon is a vocational tutor and used to be a mechanic before becoming a teacher ten years ago.

In a letter sent Wednesday, Jeffrey Creamer, the director of South High, told the staff about the arrest. He said Baillargeon is out on leave while the claims are looked into.

“I understand, given the serious nature of these allegations, how upsetting and distressing this is to our community,” Creamer said. “We care most about the safety and health of all of our students and staff.” We are dedicated to offering advice and help to the people of South High.”

Baillargeon was taken to East Brookfield District Court to be charged. He got out of jail on $3,000 bail.

“The Rutland Police Department would like to commend the victims in this case for being brave enough to come forward,” the police said on social media. “We encourage all victims of sexual abuse to come forward, and we promise to do everything in our power to offer support.”
