The arrest of a Connecticut man who was wanted on allegations of sexual assault against a minor was made in Georgia, according to the police.
According to the documents kept by the Georgia jail, Jamel Rasheen Young, who is 53 years old, was taken into custody on Monday and was now being held as a fugitive from justice at the Glynn County Detention Center on Tuesday morning.
Young was taken into custody by officers from the Glynn County Police Department after they discovered him in Brunswick, Georgia, according to Lieutenant John Simpson of the Glynn County police department.
Officer Shelby Johnson of the Naugatuck Police Department stated that he was staying at a residence in that area. According to Johnson, the FBI New Haven assisted the police in locating Young.
According to him, the Naugatuck police department has issued a warrant for Young’s arrest on counts of sexual assault in the first degree, criminal attempt to conduct sexual assault in the first degree, sexual assault in the fourth degree, and danger of injury to a minor.
Johnson has stated that the charges come from allegations that he sexually molested a child who was nine years old while he was staying in Naugatuck.
In the immediate aftermath of the news provided by CT News, it was unclear when Young would be extradited to Connecticut.
“We are currently working with our law enforcement partners for the extradition arrangements however at this time an exact timeline is not known,” Johnson stated in his statement.
