The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) office in Miami has issued an alert for Majid Dastjani Farahani, an Iranian intelligence officer implicated in orchestrating assassination attempts targeting U.S. government officials.
The alert was broadcast following concerns over Farahani’s involvement in recruitment activities aimed at executing various covert operations on American soil.
Farahani is reportedly linked to schemes targeting both current and former officials of the United States, believed to be acts of retaliation for the U.S. military’s elimination of Qasem Soleimani, a significant figure in Iran’s military structure.
Soleimani, the commander of the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, met his end in a drone strike directed by the United States in Baghdad, during the early days of January 2020, an operation sanctioned by the then U.S. President Donald Trump. Following this event, Iraq called for Trump’s arrest over Soleimani’s assassination.
At 41 years old, Farahani possesses linguistic proficiency in multiple languages, including Farsi, English, Spanish, and French, facilitating his international connections, notably with Iran and Venezuela.
According to the FBI’s statement, Farahani’s operational activities extend beyond targeted assassinations. He is also accused of orchestrating surveillance operations focusing on various sites within the United States, including religious establishments, commercial entities, and other significant facilities.
The FBI has circulated a photograph of Farahani, describing him as a male with brown and gray hair and brown eyes, in their effort to solicit public assistance in locating him. The bureau has urged anyone with pertinent information about Farahani’s whereabouts to come forward and contact their local FBI office or the closest American Embassy or Consulate.
This alarming development underscores the ongoing international security challenges and the intricate web of global espionage and counterintelligence operations.
The FBI’s public appeal marks a significant step in the United States’ efforts to neutralize perceived threats and safeguard its officials from foreign adversarial actions. The situation remains dynamic, with international relations and security agencies on high alert.
