Baton Rouge rapper NBA Youngboy is placed in federal custody after he was arrested in Utah for prescription drug fraud and identity fraud. A federal judge has made a request to revoke the pre-trial release of the rapper.
On Thursday, a motion was filed to revoke the pre-trial release of NBA YoungBoy, also known as Kentrell Gaulden. This comes after Gaulden’s arrest on 63 charges including forgery, identity fraud, and procuring prescription drugs.
United States Middle District Judge Shelly Dick has approved the motion to revoke Gaulden’s release ahead of his scheduled trial in July 2024 on unrelated weapon charges.
Court documents allege that Gaulden is involved in the operation of a significant drug prescription fraud ring in Cache County, Utah. In September 2023, Reed’s Pharmacy in Utah received a call from a pharmacist in Provo, Utah requesting a prescription of Promethazine for a patient named “Bethel White.” The pharmacy received a call from a number that was not linked to the legitimate pharmacist. The pharmacy reached out to the pharmacist, who confirmed that there was no patient named Bethel White in their records.
According to court documents, a pharmacy in Logan, Utah received a call from the same suspect, this time regarding a patient named “Gwendolyn Cox.” According to detectives, a woman who knows the individual in question collected the prescription and claimed it was intended for her grandmother.
Approximately three weeks later, the suspect contacted the pharmacy once again, requesting a refill of Promethazine for a patient named “Gwendolyn Cox.” According to court documents, the pharmacy requested a physical copy of the prescription on this occasion.

According to the affidavit, detectives initiated an investigation following an incident where individuals tried to collect a fake prescription. Detectives devised a strategy to reach out to the individual responsible for collecting the items from the pharmacy.
Two females were identified as associates of Gaulden. According to officials, they were later apprehended for their involvement in a prescription fraud ring. During the search of the vehicle, which was registered to Gaulden, authorities discovered “marijuana flakes” and an unloaded firearm. The vehicle has been seized.
After receiving a call from someone named “Gwendolyn Cox,” detectives quickly realized that the voice on the other end was not genuine and that the suspect was attempting to imitate a Southern accent. Dispatch has requested for someone named “Gwendolyn” to get in touch with them in order to arrange a transfer. The individual on the phone claimed, “I asked her to and she said she will have you contact me.”
According to documents, detectives were later contacted by Gaulden’s business manager to retrieve the vehicle from the impound and eventually reach out to Gaulden personally. Gaulden confirmed that the two women were family members and gave his approval for them to use the vehicle.

During a search of the home, detectives discovered prescription bottles with fraudulent names and a gun that was easily accessible.
Gaulden is described by the Federal Bureau of Investigations as the leader of a violent gang based in Louisiana. According to the FBI, Gaulden has a history that indicates a tendency towards violence.
