Louisiana Prison Officer Arrested for Abusing Female Inmates; Fired after Apprehension

A corrections deputy from the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office has been taken into custody following accusations of sexual assault against a female inmate.

A corrections deputy at the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center, Robert Lowring, 62, from Bienville Parish, has been booked on charges of malfeasance in office and sexual battery, according to the sheriff’s office.

An investigation was initiated shortly before Lowring’s arrest following a complaint received by the detention center staff regarding alleged misconduct between Lowring and a female inmate. An investigation was initiated, and Lowring was questioned. The sheriff’s office has announced that an arrest has been made based on substantial evidence.

Lowring, a former employee of the detention center, was terminated after his arrest.

“The allegations in this case are inexcusable and certainly not tolerated. However, it does not reflect on the vast majority of correctional officers here, and across the nation, that maintain professionalism throughout their tours of duty. As law enforcement officers, we are held to a higher standard and are expected to serve our parish with the utmost honor and integrity, not only to ensure the safety to our communities, but to also provide a safe and secure facility for incarcerated offenders,” said Natchitoches Parish Detention Center Major Roger Henson.

He is still incarcerated as reported by KSLA News.
