Los Angeles, CA: The lucky person who won the $1.08 billion Powerball jackpot from last summer was announced on Friday. They were from Southern California.
Yanira Alvarez bought the winning ticket in July 2023 at the Las Palmitas Mini Market, 1205 Wall Street, downtown Los Angeles, close to Skid Row.
Two tickets sold in Southern California that year won one billion dollars each, and her victory stopped a 39-draw jackpot run for Powerball.
A single sum payment of $558.1 million or 30 installments of the $1.08 billion jackpot was an option available to Alvarez. The lump sum was her choice.
Powerball officials have stated that her award is the third greatest in the history of the game and the sixth largest in the history of the United States.
Midway Market in Frazier Park sold a Powerball ticket of $1.7 billion in October 2023, approximately three months later. It was later found out that a group of individuals had received the reward.
A Florida Lottery Prize Of $36 Million Remains Unclaimed
Los Angeles resident Edwin Castro, who purchased the ticket at Joe’s Service Center in Altadena, claimed the historic $2.04 billion Powerball windfall in February 2022, following months of drawings.
Public schools in California received around $197.9 million from the record-breaking 2023 jackpots.
California Lottery Director Harjinder K. Shergill Chima remarked, “We cannot thank our players enough for their support of California’s public schools.” “Continentally improving the lives of students and teachers throughout the state, jackpot prizes not only transform the lives of the grand prize winners but also have a significant impact on our mission”
More than $43.8 billion has been earned for California’s public schools and higher education institutions through the state lottery since 1985.
The estimated cash value of the $303,935,000 Powerball jackpot on March 30 is $449,710,000 this coming Saturday.
At 8 p.m. PT on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays, Powerball drawings are conducted. Tickets cost $2 each.
